Once
there lived a Giant. He was often in the forest cutting trees to build houses.
He didn’t believe that God existed and wanted to see him by himself.
One day the Giant thought that if God existed and lived in heaven, he would see him when climbing
onto the clouds.
The giant started to cut down trees to build
a long ladder. He built it for several weeks and when it was finally finished,
he lifted it up and leaned on the white cloud. The Giant started to climb up
the ladder. When he had reached the cloud, he noticed that heaven was a big
castle of clouds. The man thought that God lived there and started to step
towards the castle. He opened the door and went into the castle.
There was a big man sitting in the castle.
The Giant asked if he was the God. The man was hurt because the Giant hadn’t
recognized him and had stepped into the house without knocking. He told the Giant
that he is God and asked how the man had come to heaven. The Giant told he had cut
very many trees to build the ladder. God was angry because of that and he
didn’t like when someone hurt the plants. For punishment he pushed the Giant
down. When falling, the giant made a big hole into the ground. He climbed out
and didn’t cut any trees ever again.
The big hole became a lake and people started
to call it Lake Peipsi.
