Tuesday - 14th May: Tallinn

At 8.30 am we gathered by the Kehtna shop and started our journey to Tallinn. At Hagudi, a little village half way, we made a stop to get water. The shop was still closed, but the security officer called the shop assistant and she came in 2 minutes. We bought all 22 small bottles of natural water that the shop had.

Our first stop was at Tallinn Vesi, a water company that provides drinking water to the whole town. Our guide Ants  introduced us the process how water from Lake Ülemiste is cleaned and purified. He showed us old water metres and very modern techniques where O3 is used for purification. We were priviledged to be allowed to see different rooms and its equipment so closely.
Next we were taken to Balti railway station where we divided the students into groups. Every group had 2 Estonian students and a map and they had to find some sights in the old town and take a group  photo where they gave an impression of a water symbol. One task was to climb on top of Oleviste Church.
Teachers at the same time had a walking tour in Upper Town and Downtown. We visited Nevsky Cathedral, saw the Parliament House,  Tall Hermann flag tower, took photos on the viewing platforms and walked down the Narrow Street, making compulsory stops in different souvenir shops. After an hour and a half we met the students at Townhall Square and every group got additional free time for lunch and shopping.

Our afternoon was spent at Seaplane Harbour (Maritime) Museum. First we had a guided tour and then free time in the museum. We visited the submarine Lembitu and steam ship Suur Tõll, also took photos wearing different navy costumes, played battleships and travelled around the world in 15 minutes together with Captain Volkonski.

We had dinner in a Serbian grill restaurant Admiral, on a ship docked in Terminal D. Waiters wearing sailor's costumes served us grilled Baltus steak and homemade ice cream. Although we didn't visit Kadrioru Park, teachers got a box of chocolates with its picture. Time to say good-bye came nearer and nearer and soon the lobby at Susi Hotel was filled with emotions, hugs and kisses. Every end is something else's beginning, we had to remind ourselves.

ESTONIA: Kehtna Primary School is situated in the village of 1,200. There are no big towns nearby, although the capital Tallinn is just 60km to the north. We are surrounded by forests, bogs, farmland and therefore paying extra attention to nature studies and the environment is important to us. We are a school of the Green Flag and a Health-Concious school. There are 155 students and 20 teachers in our school. Students are aged 7-17.

ITALY: Liceo Classico "Megara" con sezione scientifica annessa is a secondary school for students aged 14-19. It mainly offers three different courses for classical, scientific and social science studies. The school mainly serves students from Augusta. Our school is located in a very important area for its nature, history, archaeology and tourism. Our suburban town of Augusta is very near to Siracusa, one of the oldest and most important Greek colonies in Sicily. Our students are all members of "Legambiente" which is a national leading environmental organization which offers educational programs in schools. We live by the sea and our area is very rich in waterways, rivers and ponds.

FRANCE: College Claude Bernard is in a suburban city (Grand-Quevilly) with about 30,000 inhabitants. A town with 400,000 people called Rouen is near to us. The area has little industry nowadays following the closure of the chemical factories and the Renault car plant.
