What does Comenius project mean to us?

At the end of April Kehtna Basic School is celebrating its 170th anniversary and a special book with last decade's events will be published. Of course it will contain articles about Comenius project, too. Therefore today we started to ask our students to give some feedback what Comenius project has meant for them.


Gladis Prits:  

I've participated in two different Comenius projects. The first one was „Life In Harmony With Nature“. This project enabled me to travel to Germany. Visiting Germany, communicating with students and living in a host family was quite a big challenge for me as I was just 12 years old then. Everything turned out alright there and I coped well there.  Now when I think about it, I'm glad I had such foreign experience, because I gained more courage. The other project where I have been involved  is „Water The Spring Of Life“. Contributing to this project gave me a chance to  visit France recently. This trip was even better. One reason for that was the fact I could travel together with my classmates Liisbet, Evita, Larsen and Johannes. I was more confident to talk to the others and we all had good time. The other reason I liked France more, was because I find France very interesting. In both projects we had different tasks to do, we worked in teams, we performed and it all gave me confidence, but also improved my teamwork skills.  I got a lot of information, knowledge and ideas about water, nature and their importance, in addition to seeing foreign countries and communicating with other  people. I am very grateful for the opportunity to be involved and to develop myself in different ways.

Johannes Solman:  
This is my first time to be involved in such European project. Its name is "Water - The Spring of Life". I hoped to make new friends and friend I managed to make indeed. All our activities about water have been very informative. I've had fun. I had also fun in France. I went there together with Larsen, Gladis, Evita, Liisbet and teachers  Evelyn and Meeli. Sights were great there!






Marten Merila:  
Comenius has given me quite a lot. We have had a lot of interesting activities and I've been to different places. I took a trip to Italy which was a fun trip and broadened my mind. I could talk to different people and practise English. Locally I have taken part in many events. I especially enjoyed the celebrity hunt where we had to find out who the people in the photos were. I have also learned new things about water.





Liisbet Karjane:  
It is my second Comenius project to be involved. I decided  to participate because I love to travel and like such after-school events. Three years ago I was in Spain and it was very beautiful and interesting there. The second Comenius trip took me to France where I also liked to be. Thank to the project I've had a chance to practise English, make new friends and communicate with each other. Participating in different activities has broadened my mind. Most of all I liked to prepare our welcome show where we had Playbox, we imitated a song from each partner country. I am very happy to be part of Comenius team and if ever there was another chance,  I would definitely take part again. 


Diana Slõšenkova:

Thanks to Comenius project I improved my presentation skills, made new acquaintances and got positive emotions. Most of all I liked those evenings we spent together with the whole team where good company and  good food played an important part. And of course I remember my trip to Spain most where I met new people and culture. I owe my thanks to all the project coordinators for the opportunities and emotions I got.





Signe Sammel:

Comenius project was full of activities and great for me. I gained a lot of new knowledge  regarding water. Especially I liked our trip to Spain. Now I have many friends from foreign countries. Without doubt I obtained more courage to talk to people I meet for the first time. As an advantage I could speak English those few days while on the trip. I got to see many different places and sights. I am fully pleased to have been involved in the project work and I suggest the other students to use such opportunities as well.

Partner schools

ESTONIA: Kehtna Primary School is situated in the village of 1,200. There are no big towns nearby, although the capital Tallinn is just 60km to the north. We are surrounded by forests, bogs, farmland and therefore paying extra attention to nature studies and the environment is important to us. We are a school of the Green Flag and a Health-Concious school. There are 155 students and 20 teachers in our school. Students are aged 7-17.

ITALY: Liceo Classico "Megara" con sezione scientifica annessa is a secondary school for students aged 14-19. It mainly offers three different courses for classical, scientific and social science studies. The school mainly serves students from Augusta. Our school is located in a very important area for its nature, history, archaeology and tourism. Our suburban town of Augusta is very near to Siracusa, one of the oldest and most important Greek colonies in Sicily. Our students are all members of "Legambiente" which is a national leading environmental organization which offers educational programs in schools. We live by the sea and our area is very rich in waterways, rivers and ponds.

FRANCE: College Claude Bernard is in a suburban city (Grand-Quevilly) with about 30,000 inhabitants. A town with 400,000 people called Rouen is near to us. The area has little industry nowadays following the closure of the chemical factories and the Renault car plant.

TURKEY: Tepeköy Ilkögretim Okulu is a public school serving children aged 7-15, starting from pre-school till the 8th grade. It is a rural school and caters for 226 students and 18 teachers. Our school is in Nevsehir (Cappadocia Region), being situated in agricultural region. Our region does not have sufficient water resources and we need to focus on environmentally-friendly options.

SPAIN: IES Concepcion Arenal is a secondary education centre located in Ferrol, a town with 70,000 inhabitants in the region of Galicia (north-west of Spain). There are 85 teachers and 700 students in compulsory (12-16 years old), post-compulsory (16-18 years) part and in vocational training.
