Last Thursday our Comenius team played water board games that were created by Form 7-9 students. Some games brought quite an excitement and enthusiasm to the classroom.

Meeting with Remo Savisaar
Remo Savisaar is an Estonian photographer who has won many competitions of nature photos. This October his photo was selected out from 48 000 photos in London and was rewarded with the 2nd prize (in black and white category).
Next Thursday our students can meet him and learn more about his works and get good tips how to take better photos.

Water Week has finished....
...and it is time to sum up what we did.
* Form 9 students together with teacher Meeli had an excursion to local Water and Sewage company at Kehtna.
* Form 7-9 students spent a few active and educational hours at Environmental Centre at Kohila. We learned how something as common as water is actually something very unique.
* Form 6-9 students kept water diaries and observed their domestic consumption. Best results were present by Gladis Prits, Liisbet Karjane, Kertu Puur and Liivika Mölder.
* Form 9 students created slide shows on water. Two groups managed to create the most profound ones: Larsen Mölder, Jordan Jorš and Johannes Solman with "The importance of water in a human body" and Kristi Vaikla and Katarin Leppik with "Water pollution and its ways to avoid"
* Teacher Eva helped form 7-9 students at writing haikus (Japanese-styled poems). Best haikus were written by Laura Gontšarenko, Gerth-Genneth Habo and Leila Johkem from form 7; Marten Merila Form 8, Liisbet Karjane, Gladis Prits, Johannes Solman Form 9.
* Teacher Edda guided students to illustrate their poems.
* Studnes of Form 5-9 had teamwork in a water quiz. The best were: 1. place Evita Lohu, Liisbet, Karol; 2. place Johannes, Gladis, Kristina and 3. place Sten, Sabri, Egert, Ailen, Tauri
* Teacher Liivi solved tasks about precipitation and ice in her maths lessons
* Teacher Veera with Form 6-9 students created posters in Russian and watched films.
* Teacher Lea with her students listened to water music.
* Teacher Evelyn had prepared a task in English for every lesson. Students listened and watched videos about water cycle and studies water vocabulary, in addition a video about global problems, a short film "The First Well". At the end of the week students listened to Winnie the Pooh stories where the Piglet and the Pooh were surrounded by water.
Tomorrow, on Thursday, the most active students will get rewarded with a ticket to the pool/spa. Who can't come on 4th December, can use the ticket individually till 31 December.

* We had fun. It was great to study new things. Unfortunately we couldn't do all experiments.
* I liked that we could learn new things. I didn't like that the experiment with water and needles took so much time.

Yesterday's meeting
Yesterday's meeting was attended by Kaarel and Kenet who searched the Internet to find music connected to the water theme. They shall play those songs next week on the school radio during the breaks. Gladis, Karol, Evita, Liisbet and Larsen prepare the materials to advertise our water week. Teachers Meeli and Evelyn took part.

Progress Check
Less than 7 months more and our project will be over. There is a lot we have learned and done all together, but there is a a lot to do more. Here you can see a list with tasks which are complete or in due.

Turkish afternoon
Today we listened to Turkish pop music, created a board with water legend stories and illustrations, made yoghurt soup (Yayla Corbasi), snacks (Meze) on white bread and just chatted. We also made Ayran, but we used buttermilk and it was thicker than the one we had in Turkey. As our trip to Turkey left an impression that Coca-Cola is very popular there, we also drank Coke.

ESTONIA: Kehtna Primary School is situated in the village of 1,200. There are no big towns nearby, although the capital Tallinn is just 60km to the north. We are surrounded by forests, bogs, farmland and therefore paying extra attention to nature studies and the environment is important to us. We are a school of the Green Flag and a Health-Concious school. There are 155 students and 20 teachers in our school. Students are aged 7-17.
ITALY: Liceo Classico "Megara" con sezione scientifica annessa is a secondary school for students aged 14-19. It mainly offers three different courses for classical, scientific and social science studies. The school mainly serves students from Augusta. Our school is located in a very important area for its nature, history, archaeology and tourism. Our suburban town of Augusta is very near to Siracusa, one of the oldest and most important Greek colonies in Sicily. Our students are all members of "Legambiente" which is a national leading environmental organization which offers educational programs in schools. We live by the sea and our area is very rich in waterways, rivers and ponds.
FRANCE: College Claude Bernard is in a suburban city (Grand-Quevilly) with about 30,000 inhabitants. A town with 400,000 people called Rouen is near to us. The area has little industry nowadays following the closure of the chemical factories and the Renault car plant.
TURKEY: Tepeköy Ilkögretim Okulu is a public school serving children aged 7-15, starting from pre-school till the 8th grade. It is a rural school and caters for 226 students and 18 teachers. Our school is in Nevsehir (Cappadocia Region), being situated in agricultural region. Our region does not have sufficient water resources and we need to focus on environmentally-friendly options.
SPAIN: IES Concepcion Arenal is a secondary education centre located in Ferrol, a town with 70,000 inhabitants in the region of Galicia (north-west of Spain). There are 85 teachers and 700 students in compulsory (12-16 years old), post-compulsory (16-18 years) part and in vocational training.
